I have been doing this for a long time now and with the development of my own clinic I have been able to offer a large range of significant new treatments to my patients to widen their choice. That does not however mean that we have neglected the basics with Botox® and fillers. These are still the mainstay of our practice and they are essential ingredients to the final result we can achieve.
As more and more people perceive this market as an easy way to make money there have been increasing numbers of medical and now non-medical people offering to provide these treatments. These people try to break into the market by offering there services for slightly less than their more experienced competitors. This can leave the patients with a quandary.
How do you decide where to go?
Well in these difficult economic times it often appears better to go to the cheapest priced clinic. However the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD) has recently released an article advising against a simple price decision. We are after all talking about your face.
Perhaps as an example I can say this. You wouldn’t have your hair cut by an electrician and I doubt if you would be happy for your hairdresser to rewire your house. So when choosing a practitioner to stick needles in your face I would suggest you pick one that has done this a lot.
Some beauticians have recently been offered a two day course after which they will be able to inject botox and filler treatments. Many dentists now also offer Botox at their clinics this is despite the fact that the General Dental Council has declared that this form of treatment is not within their definition of dentistry. All of this by the way is perfectly legal, but that doesn’t make it right.
In truth even some doctors who offer this service, whilst eminently qualified, only perform the procedures rarely and may not have the experience of a full time practitioner.
If anyone says that these things aren’t important then I am happy to go off on a two day dentistry course and start drilling teeth……..
So what am I suggesting that you do if you are looking for someone to provide Botox and filler injections. Personally I would always recommend a member of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors. Look for them on the following website. www.cosmeticdoctors.co.uk These have all been trained appropriately and assessed to ensure they have the requisite skills. Also please don’t be afraid of asking how long they have been doing the treatments and more importantly how many procedures they have performed. This is often even more telling as some may have been doing it for several years but only doing one or two procedures a month.
Next always look for personal recommendations. You may be surprised at how many of your friends are already having this done whilst remaining pretty discrete. It is certainly much better to go to someone recommended by a friend especially if they have had several treatments by the same person.
Next go in for a chat. Many people in this field offer free consultations and are happy to talk to you directly about your needs and their experience. Make sure you are comfortable with your decision. The treatment, the clinic and the practitioner.
Can I make one final recommendation against ‘Botox parties.’ Botox should never be associated with alcohol and coercion is often a problem with these kinds of events. This remains a serious medical treatment and it should be treated as such. However once you have ‘taken the plunge’ I am sure you will like the results.
For what its worth a minor audit early last year suggested that I had done somewhere between 12,000 and 13,000 treatments at that time so there are definitely practitioners available with a lot of experience.
If you would like to talk personally to me about this or any of the other procedures we do then call the girls on 01625 598 000 and book your FREE consultation now!

This is so true, so many docs are getting into the game and really are not trained properly. Just because you hold a medical license that does not mean you know how to inject Botox or any other filler
