They are said to be the windows of your soul. We ask people to look directly into our eyes if we think they are lying because we feel we can see directly into their heart and discern the truth. When you meet someone new the eyes are often the first thing we check out. So it is easy to see why my most common requested area for treatment is around the eyes.

As we get older there is the inevitable appearance of fine lines and wrinkles starting in the ‘crows feet’ area and spreading slowly around the eyes and the rest of the face. Botox remains the gold standard of treatment in this area and here at Eternal Youth we still treat a lot of patients with Botox, the simple, safe and gentle treatment to enhance the eyes. I have described Botox as one of the safest drugs on the planet as it can only ever have a temporary effect. This of course is a plus and a minus. The plus is the safety the minus is that if you like it you will need to repeat it to retain the look.

Whilst Botox remains popular there is an increasing call for something longer acting, and so patients turn to us to provide them with a more long term solution. For some time Thermage has been used for its ‘anti-gravitational’ properties, but it does work particularly well around the eyes. It is able to help us lift the eyebrows and raise the cheeks to return a more youthful look to the face. We have previously been limited to working near the eyes rather than directly over them in order to keep the eyeball from the heat generated by the device.

More recently however Thermage have developed a new tip which, when used in conjunction with a plastic eye shield which is inserted like a contact lens, allows us to work directly on the upper lid. This gives us a major advantage with upper lid ‘hooding’ and allows us to offer a significant part of the effect of a blepharoplasty without any of the contingent surgical risks and down time.

This Thermage for the Eyes treatment can be performed on its own or it can be added to an overall facial treatment to be performed at the same time. This allows us to reduce the costs of the two separate treatments when performed together. Like all Thermage treatments the results appear slowly over a period of a few months but this allows for a very discrete enhancement.

Someone said to me recently that one of the major advantages she could see about Thermage is that for certain prominent celebrities they could have this treatment and then quite legitimately deny ever having any cosmetic surgery. I did tell her that we have a back door to our clinic specifically so our more ‘shy’ patients can enter and exit the building safe from paparazzi.

So if you see a famous figure on TV whose face looks subtly and delicately renewed, but she denies  all claims of surgery, then she may very well be telling the truth. A non surgical treatment like Thermage might have given her the improvement she wanted without any of the inherent risks and problems. Thermage for the eyes is a specialist advance on the standard Thermage  procedure and not all practitioners are trained to perform it.
