Botox on the up in the US and across the world

Botox
has proven to be the most popular form of cosmetic enhancement in a recent US survey.

The treatment accounted for 2.8 million of the 11.7 million cosmetic procedures carried out in 2007, according to the country's latest census.

Facial fillers were close behind Botox in the popularity stakes and have contributed to a massive increase in procedures across the board over the last few years.

The number of cosmetic procedures taking place in the US each year has risen from 8.5 million in 2001 to almost 12 million in 2007.

It reflects a growing trend around the world, even being followed by heads of state.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported today (December 17th) that Queensland premier Anna Bligh has admitted to having the treatment, while Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi openly discusses the work he has had done.

In a lengthy article on Brad Pitt, Australian website theage.com.au speculated recently that the actor - famed for his chiselled good looks - has also enjoyed the benefits of a Botox needle.
