Women opting for education and safety in surgery decision

A new study has outlined what women look for when deciding whether or not to have cosmetic surgery.

The survey, by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and Dermik Laboratories, found that the main thing women take into account is the physician's training and expertise.

More than nine in every ten (95 per cent) women said that a physician's training was the most important thing to consider when deciding whether to proceed.

Another thing to consider, according to the study, was how quickly the results would occur.

Women tended to opt for gradual results that would last around two years rather than short-term measures.

The study also found that women need to feel that their doctor is informative, with 99 per cent of those considering having treatment consulting a doctor to get their information before deciding to press ahead.

"These findings illustrate a positive trend toward more consumers being educated about procedures before moving forward with any type of cosmetic treatment," said ASDS member Susan Weinkle.

Women are not willing to sacrifice the safety or quality of their procedures."
