Macrolane™
Here at the Eternal Youth Clinic in Alderley Edge, Cheshire we are proud to be one of the first in the North West to offer this revolutionary new treatment.
Developed by Q-Med from the same NASHA technology as their gold standard facial filler Restylane, Macrolane™ is a smoother thicker gel which is designed to be placed under the breast tissue and lift it forwards enhancing the shape and fullness in a soft and natural manner. It can also be used to enhance the buttocks or the calves.
This product is a form of Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural component of skin and is therefore very safe and simple to administer. It has been used in over 40,000 treatments in Japan over the last four years and so, like its facial counterpart, it has an excellent safety record.
It has two main target patient groups. The first is the 18 to 24 year old with relatively small breasts who is looking for a gentle natural enhancement. Ideally an A or B cup or perhaps a small C. These patients can be given a significant yet subtle enhancement with minimal fuss. The other target patient group are the 35 to 45 post pregnancy patients who have seen their breasts lose volume and droop a little. Macrolane™ can be used to replaced the lost breast tissue and visually lift the breast up towards its previous position.
One potentially controversial aspect of the gel is that it is temporary in nature and this can be seen as a negative. However for most patients the temporary nature of the enhancement is a positive bonus. It is this temporary nature which appeals to those who are nervous of implanting a plastic foreign body underneath the breast tissue.
Macrolane™ lasts from 12 to 18 months and then gradually fades away naturally.
This means that it does benefit from being ‘topped up’ roughly once a year. However this aspect also gives another unique reason for choosing Macrolane™. Because of this temporary nature we can tailor the volume used to your own personal preference balancing up uneven sides and choosing to be a little bigger this year or slightly smaller next as you decide how you want to look. This allows us to provide an individually tailored enhancement to your own personal preferences. Whereas surgeons have a small selection of standard volumes they can add, we can implant precisely as much as you want or feel you need. We can also precisely tailor the position of the gel to add a little more here and a little less there, again allowing us to adjust the result to individually enhance your own shape.

Macrolane™ injectable enhancement.
The procedure is performed in a minor surgical treatment room under full aseptic
technique. Antibiotic cover is provided. Preoperative and post operative photos will be taken. It takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes. A dressing is applied to the injection sites which is water proof and remains in place for 14 days. There is usually some slight swelling and tenderness for a few days and the breasts can feel very firm for 4 to 6 weeks until the overlying skin has relaxed a little. You will need to wear a close fitting support bra for 4 to six weeks and you will notice some discomfort and bruising for the first few days.
A review at two weeks allows the wound and the position of the gel to be checked.
Further follow up is arranged as required.
This safe and simple procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic through a small injection site and so there is minimal downtime, minimal risk and minimal discomfort.
The results are visible instantaneously and can add between a half a cup size to a cup and a half depending on your personal preference and what we start with. This technique is more advanced than normal fillers and so you will only find it at a select few clinics.
