To paraphrase a music hall comedian “ Do you want the good news or the bad news?”
Well here’s the bad news. Moisturisers don’t work. Most of the creams you can buy over the counter may smell nice and feel nice but they do very little to help the skin. In fact some doctors think that moisturisers encourage a build up of dead skin layers, giving that grey lacklustre appearance and interfere with skin nutrition, so not only are they not helping much but they may be making your skin worse too.
Let me pause for a second because I know that most of you spend a lot of money on moisturisers and probably put plenty on this very morning.
Ok. Here is the good news. There is a way of improving the health and hydration of your skin from the inside out. Here is the even better news it doesn’t cost much more than your moisturisers. There is a slight downside to it as it does require injections, but eventually these are only needed three or four times a year. The quality of the skin improvement available is excellent.
Now when I talk about new treatments people always want to know who makes it, is it well tested and can we be sure it is safe?
So here is the best news. It is made by the manufacturer of the most popular facial filler ever and the essential ingredients have been used in over 10 million treatments for over 10 years, so we are very happy it is safe. In fact your skin already contains huge amounts of the same sort of molecules so it is about as natural as it can be.
So what is it called? It comes in two versions Restylane Vital and Restylane Vital Light. They have slightly different indications but they have essentially the same function. Its nice to have a choice isn’t it? For the light version they have even come up with a fancy new pen injector device to ensure consistency of dose across the area to be treated.
So what does it do? Well essentially it creates good hydration balance. It acts a little like one of those super sponges from JML. When placed into the superficial layers of the skin it helps to balance the water needs of the surrounding tissues. If the skin is too dry it donates some of the water held within the molecule to the local cells and when the water is replenished by drinking it soaks up any excess to be available for use later. Maintaining that perfect balance. Sounds really clever doesn’t it, but that is precisely why your body already contains so much of it.
So why do we need to inject any more in there? Well unfortunately with the environment that we live in, the lifestyles we lead and the more subtle aspects of the aging process we do slowly lose significant amounts of this product from our skin so all we are really doing is putting back what has gone missing.
So we have a treatment that only costs a little more than something you are doing already(and in some cases possibly considerably less ‘Royal Jelly’ anyone???). It works on the face, the neck, the décolletage, the hands and pretty much anywhere else you want. It is safe, pleasant, effective and well proven.
So tomorrow morning when you are putting on your “face”, consider this. There just may be a better solution.
