“The skin on my neck is a little crepey and I am very self conscious about it. I have researched various skin tightening treatments, please can you let me know which is the best for crepey/loose skin in the neck area? “
The skin of the neck does thin with age and natural fat loss from this region can make the whole area look aged and ‘turkey neck’. For many years the neck has been the ‘giveaway’ area when a good result post face lift was let down by a slightly more ‘scraggy looking’ neck. The good news is there have now been some good improvements in this area which don’t require resorting to the surgeons knife.
The two most effective treatments for this area are Thermage and Fraxel with the possible slight preference for Fraxel. Thermage is a good skin tightener and certainly can do wonders for the upper third of the neck and jaw line. It involves temporary heating of your own internal collagen fibres to cause the production of newer springier healthier collagen which tightens up the treated area.
Fraxel is however better at addressing the surface texture and colour of the skin, dealing with the age spots and giving an overall lift to the appearance. It uses a pixelated laser to resurface the skin of the neck and refresh the appearance of the skin. We have some excellent before and after pictures showing neck improvement following Fraxel. These also shows improvement of the decolletage.
” I have read about a procedure that involves injecting botox into the calf muscle to reduce its size. Is it possible to get some more information on this procedure? Is it performed anywhere in the UK?”
Injecting Botox into muscles causes temporary weakness. If this is done with sufficient doses and on a regular basis it is possible to cause the muscle to shrink slightly. This process is used in the Far East to cause some atrophy of the cheek muscles for Korean and Japanese patients who are seeking a less rounded more European profile to their face.
It would certainly be possible to use this to reduce the size of calf muscles but I suspect you would need very large doses and these would of course cause concomitant weakness of the calf muscles which may cause problems for the patient.
I am certainly not ware of anyone offering this service for calves in the UK at this time. There are doctors in the UK who provide the cheek treatments for the appropriate patients.
